As Scientist in Upstream Process Development Europe you are responsible for the Upstream Process Development of Biologics processes within the Integrated Bioprocess Solutions Europe organization. This team is accountable for the planning, overview, and execution of all internal and external activities related to Upstream process development in Europe - a hub for development of increasingly complex biologics. The deliverables are robust, reproducible, and scalable Upstream processes by application of scientifically sound approaches and methodologies. We are very much looking forward to candidates who bring an excitement about innovation in the field of mechanistic modelling and simulation of bioreactor processes for complex molecules – at Takeda, we share this excitement and have a number of ongoing projects in the area.

Your New Opportunity:

  • Embedded in a team develop biopharmaceutical processes for complex Biologics
  • Design, perform and document experiments for upstream process development
  • Writing experimental plans and developmental and technical reports
  • Communication of results within the team and across other functions, internally and externally
  • Implement required technology for mechanistic modelling and simulation of bioreactor processes
  • Evaluate technology with internal and external partners
  • Select proper technology and implement within Takeda
  • Define modelling and simulation work packages as standard for future development projects
  • Generate targeted innovative Upstream process solutions focused on automation, digitalization and advanced control strategies
  • Improve productivity by means of operational excellence
  • Increase capabilities and capacity by collaborations with external partners

Your Skills and Qualifications:

  • A strong background in cell culture and upstream process techniques and a passion for complex biologics, knowledge in downstream processing is a plus
  • Several years of relevant working experience (either in academia and/or industry)
  • An understanding of and excitement for modelling and simulation techniques
  • Advanced skills in hands-on experimentation for upstream process development and thorough planning / set up of such experiments
  • Background in DoE (Design of Experiments), continuous processing, automation and digitalization of bioprocesses
  • Advanced university degree (e.g. PhD) in Natural Science e.g. Biotechnology, Molecular Biology
  • Experience in manufacturing process development with a competence and enthusiasm for developing robust commercial Upstream manufacturing processes
  • Experience in working with AMBR systems is an advantage
  • English is a must, German is a plus and other languages are nice to have

Motivated employees must be remunerated appropriately. The minimum salary for this important and responsible position is € 3.323,20 gross per month (full time, collective wage agreement for the chemical industry). The actual remuneration package will be guided by your professional experience and your qualifications, so increased payment is possible.
