VIRTUAL VEHICLE is a leading international R&D center for the automotive and rail industries. The center focuses on advanced virtualization of vehicle development. This linking of numerical simulations and hardware testing leads to a powerful HW-SW system design.

Automotive testbeds produce not only the measurements they are operated for but also auxiliary software logfiles not related to unit under test. At the moment, these logfiles are hardly ever used although they contain information suitable to predict the future status (e.g., malfunctions) of the testbed. The knowledge gained through predictions supports taking preventive actions to avoid costly downtimes.


  • Understand testbed logfile data and its domainspecific context
  • Prepare and preprocess logfile data for analysis
  • Improve/extend existing approaches for knowledge extraction (e.g., Markov Models, time series analysis)
  • Create new predictive models based on methods from Statistics and Machine Learning (using, e.g., feature extraction, neural networks, statistical models, network analysis)


  • Profound mathematical background
  • Experience with Machine Learning appreciated
  • Strong scripting skills (R, Python, or similar; willingness to work in R)
  • Experience with databases and SQL
  • Flexibility and willingness to learn
  • Work in an independent and structured manner
  • Ability to work in a team, good English skills


  • Possibility to work on a very large dataset with recent server hardware and GPUs
