VIRTUAL VEHICLE is a leading international R&D center for the automotive and rail industries. The center focuses on advanced virtualization of vehicle development. This linking of numerical simulations and hardware testing leads to a powerful HW-SW system design.

TASKS

In the context of ongoing activities to develop a multiphysics simulation framework for spatially resolved simulation of the thermal-runaway behaviour (battery fire) of automotive battery systems

  • Optimization of already developed numerical methods for the calculation of the kinetics of chemical degradation reactions causing the thermal runway
  • Numerical fitting of the model parameters from experimental data
  • Creation and meshing of simplified 3D models of a large-scale automotive Li-ion battery system
  • Simulation and assessment of different safety relevant misuse cases

PROFILE

  • Student of related technical field
  • Interest in numerical simulation and modelling
  • Experience in computer programming
  • Don’t shy away from learning some basic chemistry of Li-Ion battery technology
  • Independent execution of sub-tasks of the project
