Virtual Vehicle is a leading international R&D center for the automotive and rail industries. The center focuses on advanced virtualization of vehicle development. This linking of numerical simulations and hardware testing leads to a powerful HW-SW system design.

In a soon starting research project, the influence of integrating PV-modules on a vehicle surface should be shown. Relevant are thermal aspect as well as power-flow adaptions. A solar vehicle simulation platform should be built. An intelligent control for the overall powertrain will be developed with respect to solar power flows. The increase of driving range by solar power will be investigated. Further, the thermal influence with solar powered conditioning on the cabin will be analyzed. The charging of the EV should be simulated based on a simple grid model with variable load profile to show possibilities for solar enabled bidirectional charging of EVs.

TASKS

  • The simulation parts in the work can be selected by yourself based on your interests

  • 1D thermal- and energy-flow modelling of selectable system parts
  • Final overall simulation
  • Development and validation of control strategies
  • Annual energy calculations and solar CO2-reduction potentialities for different cities in Europe

PROFILE

  • Student in Electrical, Mechanical Engeneering or similar
  • Interest in alternative energy systems
